We are 2/5 rounds through the 2024 Canadian Finals Rodeo and boy has the plot thickened. Round 2 seen some teams redeem themselves after night 1 mishaps, including Grady Quam & Brady Chappel, who bested the field with a 4.7 to pocket $11,100 each. Fan favorites, Roland McFadden & Tyrel Flewelling got their steer captured last night for a 5th place finish and a small piece of the pie while McLeod & Sporer also made their first trip to the pay window with a 3rd place finish after their 5.0.
Although it was McLeod & Sporer's first pay day at the Finals, the pair does currently sit 3rd in the average with a 14.8 on 2 steers. Other team's that have displayed consistency are Kolton Schmidt & Landen Glenn, who paired their 5.2 from the 1st round with a 4.8 last night to take control of the average with a 10.0 on 2 steers and move themselves into the top 3 on their respective ends. Kash Bonnett & Logan Spady have also put down a pair of solid runs for go round money each night, currently the pair sits 4th in the standings on each side and 2nd in the average with a 10.4 on 2 steers.
On the other side of things, a couple of heavy hitting, gunslingers fell out of the average such as Dawson & Dillon Graham and 1st Round Winners, Kavis Drake & Denim Ross. It sounds like they will be roping the set of steers from the 1st Round and with the way they look, and the storyline that's shaping up, we should be in for a treat tonight.
Tate Schmidt & Kagen Schmidt:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Tate: It was kind of crazy, kind of went the way I thought it would. Them steers are big and strong. They were straight and even, I think the flagger is doing a real good job of making sure they're all faced up and tight. Denim missing caught me off guard with the way that he's been roping all year but it happens, that was a very fast hook from Kavis. Kolton and Landen's run looks like it could happen over and over again for them the next 3 nights, Landen looks pretty solid back there, he's just catching em. Jerry pulled off a shot and Tyrel frickin heeled one, that was awesome.
Kagen: I thought that set of steers were also good, good roping again, Landen pulled off another shot, I went and watched last night it looks bad ass in there to rope.
Question: Who wins Round #3 tonight?
Tate: I like this pen of steers tonight, they seem straight and honest. Bird's was a little softer but he must've hung his horn up. Other than that, I think they are all frickin good. Kavis & Denim, Dawson & Dillon, Brady & Calgary, Trey & Jeremy, that's 4 fast teams right there that are battling it out tonight. There's going to be some fast, fast steers spun tonight, I'm going to say we will see the fastest time for sure tonight. I'm going to go with Dawson & Dillon again tonight, 4.0, they'll get em this time.
Kagen: I know as soon as I don’t say em, they’re gonna win the round but I’ll switch from Daws & Dill to Brady and Calgary tonight, there’s no way they miss 3 in a row.
Travis Speer:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Travis: First, I can't believe how many ticked horns there was. That was just damn tough luck for Logan and Tyce. I damn sure didn't expect Brady and Calgary's steer to do that. Kash and Spady are doing their thing, that was a great run for them. And you gotta give credit to Quam and Chappel, they sure made it happen last night. Kavis is unreal, it wouldn't surprise me if he does that 3 more times.
Question: Who wins Round #3 tonight?
Travis: I can't decide between Tryan and Smith or the Grahams. I know how good Brady is in those situations and I think the steer will take it better tonight and Calgary will get em and Dawson is going to send it just like last night and will connect this time. I think tonight is going to be fast and really good watching, 4.1 wins tonight and it will either be Tryan & Smith or the Grahams.
Logan Groves:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Logan: How about my guy Quam, he smacked em last night. That was a really good steer and run. Kavis, holy, that kid hooked and it just didn't work for Denim, something just went a little out of whack. Ole Pony and Tyrel, that was a good run. Landen Glenn, he took one more swing, caught his horse out of stride, that was a good shot. Levi Schmidt got out, he must have pulled at the right time, he's getting it on as fast as anyone.
Question: Who wins Round #3 tonight?
Logan: I'll go Kavis and Denim again, sticking with the boys. On that set of steers, I bet they go 4.2 again.
Brett Buss:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Brett: I thought it was a great round of team roping, good for Grady and Chappel for bouncing back in the 2nd round. Kolton and Landen are making good runs, I see them in contention over the next go rounds, and the average and the long run and same with Kash and Spady. They're just making good smooth runs and hitting the barrier right.
Question: Who wins Round #3 tonight?
Brett: I can see Levi and Logan blasting one tonight. I think Kavis and Denim bounce back, if you give Denim that cow again, he gets em 9 times out of 10.
Grady Branden:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Grady: It's kind of crazy when I look at your standings to see the changes every day. Like Kash has fell even though they've been catching and making good runs. It's crazy, it's shaping up to be a tight race. 5 rounds sure is different then 6, I think you got to go at it, you have 1 less go round to cash in on to win a Canadian title.
Question: Who wins Round #3 tonight?
Grady: I think you got to go with Tee & Sid to get a round win and I'm looking for Dawson & Dillon to do something too. And Bird & Tyce, Levi & Braden, shoot if you look at the top 12 any of em are capable of winning it. I bet a 4.1 wins the round tonight on that set of steers.
Cowboi Cole:
Cowboi Cole:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Cole: My takeaway is everyone now has a really good feel for what kind of start they need to take and what kind of throws they need to take. If Denim heels that one last night, everyone is in serious trouble and I doubt Denim takes an extra swing again all week. At least I hope not. Grady Quam is back in the hunt for a title but knows it’s going to be earned via winning rounds so they’re going to be fun to watch. Kash and Spady are on a steady track as planned.
Question: Who wins Round #3 tonight?
Cole: Brady Tryan & Calgary Smith win round 3 with a 3.8!! Two whoopsies for those boys they’ll be hungry to connect and it’ll be fast on tonight’s pen.
Around The Saddle Horn:
Round 3 Recap- Definitely some unexpected things to happen last night. Great run by Quam & Chappel of course, putting a little money in their jeans. There was some great heel shots, Tyrel, Jerry, Glenn, Spady, all of them guys ripped the pants off one. Heel shot of the night had to be Logan Cullen, that was cowboying up. Headers look comfortable and I bet it gets fast tonight.
Round 3 Winner- I'm taking the kids. Kavis Drake & Denim Ross win Round 3 with a 3.9, you heard it here first. They are roping the steers from the 1st round and I don't think you can bet against those 2 on a set like that. Kavis has been hands down the best header there after 2 rounds and you know Denim Ross won't let that one get away again. I think we get fast, I think we break into the 3s and you have to be a 4.8 or faster to get a piece of it.
