The World Series of Team Roping Finale has come and gone again, awarding a staggering $19.7 million in payouts over ten full days of team roping action, from December 6th to December 15th.
Once again, a significant number of Canadians ventured to the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, aiming for the life-changing and lucrative payouts that the WSTR Finale has to offer.
While our canucks didn’t match their remarkable $680,000 USD winnings from 2023, they still tallied an impressive $382,330 USD during this year’s event, proving their skills and abilities on team roping's largest stage.
Canadian Highlights at the WSTR Finale:
Walker & Simpson’s Big Win:
Vince Walker of Red Deer County, Alberta and Frank Simpson of Claresholm, Alberta delivered the biggest payday for Canada. Their 38.45-second performance on four steers in the #9.5 Finale secured the pair a $100,000 USD prize.
Dillon Graham Shines:
Canadian champion, Dillon Graham made waves with multiple successes, amassing $31,300 USD through three notable performances:
In the #16.5 Add-On, Graham partnered with Idaho header Cole Eiguren, clocking 25.31 seconds on four steers to secure 1st place and a $29,000 USD split.
Graham also teamed up with roping legend JD Yates in the #16.5, finishing 3rd with a time of 26.23 seconds and splitting $15,600 USD.
Lastly, in the Open division, Dillon joined forces with his older brother, Dawson Graham, to rope six steers in 40.59 seconds to claim 5th place and a $18,000 USD payout.
McNichol’s Second-Place Finish:
Okotoks, Alberta’s Clay McNichol teamed up with Catcher Gasperson of Decatur, Texas, in the #15.5. Their time of 28.91 seconds on four steers earned McNichol a $25,700 USD payday for his half of the 2nd place prize.
Dallyn Strikes Again, This Time With Buhler
Last year Nanton, Alberta's Rocky Dallyn played a part in $254,550 in winnings inside of the South Point. While it may not have been as lucrative in 2024, the Canadian legend paired up with fellow sensation, Jeremy Buhler in the #14.5, with Buhler switching to the head side. The duo roped four steers in 29.25 seconds, finishing 8th and taking home $37,000 USD as a team.
Duce & Wilson Impress in the #13.5
Raymond, Alberta’s Tracy Duce and Cardston, Alberta’s Riley Wilson stood out in the #13.5 division, roping four steers in 30.82 seconds. Their performance earned 8th place and an impressive $49,000 USD prize.
Greg Wilson Finds Success in the #7.5
Fort St. John’s Greg Wilson partnered with Carlos Gomez of Stanfield, Arizona, in the #7.5 division. The pair roped four steers in 52.82 seconds, earning $19,000 USD each.
Numerous other Canadians also stopped at the pay window throughout the week in Vegas, whether as part of the Finale or the qualifiers outside. Collectively, $382,330 USD in winnings was brought back to the Great White North, cementing Canada’s reputation as a hub for world-class team ropers.
