We are hours away from Round 2 of the Canadian Finals Rodeo and after the excitement that last night brought, the anticipation for Round 2 of rodeo action is running high. Last night we seen some teams jump out and visit the pay window early, putting themselves in a solid position on their quests towards a Canadian title. On the other hand, we seen some teams go out of the average race early, meaning they will have nothing to lose going forward.
We caught back up with yesterday's panel to recap the action from Night #1 and discuss what is to come with tonight's performance thanks to Wildfire Walkers.
Joe Beaver:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Joe: Man I just got a bigger look for them kids. I think that Kavis Drake pulled off a really big shot for him, first time for him there and blew out every inch of the barrier for the day money. And then Denim just heeled that sucker, I watched him this summer and man that kid really heels. I think they made a statement last night for what's to come. I thought the steers looked really good, they were a really good set of steers for guys to go at. I think Jeremy has been spot on all year heeling, he showed it last night, I know they got the barrier, but man he's been heeling, he got both his guys to the Finals.
Question: Who wins Round #2 tonight?
Joe: You know it's hard to go against Bird, if you put Bird out of the average with go rounds left, you can't not think about him. And with Trey and Jerry getting the barrier, I think they'll be another team to pay attention to tonight.
Tate & Kagen Schmidt:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Tate: Well I seen Kavis dirty hook one, that was rank. I don't know how Kash got out and Trey didn't, that one caught me off guard. But Kash just drilled the barrier and that horse is fast as shit, he got em by a nice deep neck and Spady just bagged em. Therman (Logan Cullen) bagged one, all the rookies actually did great. Levi got the barrier but being first out you can't beat yourself up too much and he got it caught as fast as anybody. Brost didn't get too excited, he just did his job and caught him. 'Tito' looked like 'Tito' for Kolton, that run looked easy for them.
Kagen: Man I thought those steers were pretty damn good, I thought it was pretty good roping myself. It's a pretty wicked set of teams up there. Kavis & Denim obviously stood out, they made that 4.2 look real easy. Landen Glenn heeled the shit out of that steer, 'Therm' did 'Therm' things. Dillon heeled the shit out of one. It looked like a pretty sweet setup to rope one in though.
Question: Who wins Round #2 tonight?
Tate: I'm going to go with Brady & Calgary, they're going to get themselves back in it tonight. Should be a stronger set of steers tonight, I'm sure Brady will do the same thing but his horse might pull a little further.
Kagen: I'm going to have to go with Dawson & Dillon again. They're blasting, they're hard to beat any day.
Travis Speer:
Question: Who wins Round #2 tonight?
Travis: I kind of feel like it will be D Bird and Tyce tonight. I feel like he'll get a better roll at em tonight and D Bird in those indoors is just pretty deadly and of course Tyce is really good, he'll be there for it.
Logan Groves:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Logan: My biggest take away was probably how crazy it was the amount of guys that made smart runs to stay in the average but there was also some surprising ones that fell out of the average last night. The building looks good. There was just some smart roping except Kavis and Denim, their safety is off and they are shaking and baking.
Question: Who wins Round #2 tonight?
Logan: Man I'm going for the 2peat and sticking with the boys, they're just out there blasting. I heard Denim Ross heeled 25/26 steers by two feet at the futurity yesterday and roped the 26th one by a leg after it fell over and got back up and trotted off. And then he won 1st and 2nd in the Pro-Am this morning, that kid's insane. Timewise, I say they go 4.5 tonight. I heard they're running the stronger set from Strathmore, all dead straight but a little bit bigger and stronger.
Brett Buss:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Brett: Man Kavis and Denim did what I thought they were going to do, I thought Grahams were going to be a little faster but it didn't work out. Kavis and Denim just made a real good run. That arena looked pretty sweet to rope in, looked like there was lots of room.
Question: Who wins Round #2 tonight?
Brett: I'm going to go with Kavis and Denim, that run last night looked salty, they've got the ball rolling and they have the momentum and I bet they just keep riding it from here.
Cowboi Cole:
Cowboi Cole:
Question: What was your biggest take away from last night? What'd you see?
Cole: Man I thought them steers were really good. I also thought a lot of guys really kicked around last night and took some sure shots on a Wednesday night, and they let them young boys come out and spank em. When Kavis nodded, I cracked the latch and could kind of see him float, and as he pulled, he cracked that first swing off and you could just tell he was in range before he even pulled his rope up. It's going to be fun watching Kavis. Denim told me, you're going to see Kavis do that all week, that is his throw and he's figured it out. And of course, it's worth mentioning that Tee McLeod spun another one to potentially win a 3rd straight first round. I think it's only going to get faster, I think 4.2 was just a little bit of a taste of what is to come.
Question: Who wins Round #2 tonight?
Cole: I'm going to with Kash Bonnett and Logan Spady with a 4.1. Look at the tight leash that Kash had that steer on last night, that horse he is riding is fast af, he ate that steer alive. He scores so well and gets em on a tight leash, they'll knock one down fast.
Around The Saddle Horn:
Round 1 Recap- Round 1 was a fun one. I think that the coolest thing was that all 5 of the first timers looked super comfortable in there and should have a pile of confidence going into the next 4 rounds. Cullen, Glenn & Brost all did one heck of a job on the heel side, they looked super comfortable, Levi caught the barrier at first out but he absolutely stuck it on one and he won't break out like that again and of course we all seen what Kavis did. Super excited to watch all of them young guys over the next 4 rounds and at many more of the CFRs to come.
Round 2 Winner- I have to go with Tee and Sid again. It hasn't been talked about a lot but that spin that Tee gave Sid last night was rank and Sid won't do that again. Apparently it is the stronger set of steers tonight and I think that a guy like Tee with his range and horsepower will really shine. McLeod & Sporer go 4.0 tonight for the round win, count on it.
