Brady Chappel Set for 4th CFR Appearance

Moose Jaw's Brady Chappel is heading back to Edmonton for his 4th CFR appearance after picking up $23,772 in season earnings over the course of the year. Chappel primarily roped with Tuftin McLeod throughout the summer but a strong performance at the 2023 Maple Leaf Circuit Finals with Tee McLeod helped to cement him into the Top 12 and secure him a spot in Edmonton. Together, Chappel & McLeod have a stranglehold on the season leader titles for the Canadian Cowboys Association but with McLeod coming up jut short in the CPRA Standings, Chappel will rope with Grady Quam at this year's Canadian Finals and the Maple Leaf Circuit Finals in November.

Question: How many times have you made the CFR now and who did you rope with?
Answer: This is number 4. I roped with Riley Roy in 2017 in Edmonton, 2021 and 2023 with Tee and now this year I'll rope with Grady Quam.

Question: Have you roped with Grady much?
Answer: We've entered a few open jackpots and stuff like that. Never any rodeos I guess. We've got the same idea in mind though, try to get that money during the week and get the big cheque at the end of the week too. It sounds like he's going to come out next week and rope some inside.

Question: How was your summer/season?
Answer: It was okay, we kind of had some highs and lows I guess. The CCA rodeos treated us real good and the pro rodeos were good too. Tuftin roped so great, his catch percentage was unreal. I just roped too many legs to get us both there. It's a little bittersweet to make it without him because he did rope so good but I'm still super pumped to be going. I've got a great partner lined up and I'm looking forward to it.

Question: What's the main horse you used throughout the season?
Answer: He's a 7 year-old gelding named 'CD', CD FAST N FURIOUS. I bought him as a 2 year-old, he was riding around a little bit and I have had him ever since. I showed him at a few futurities early on and he did okay at those. Now here for 2023 and 2024, he's been the main mount for out there and everywhere really. He's nice and laid back but still got some jam when you need it.

Question: What's your rope of choice?
Answer: The Medium Hard Future by Cactus.

Question: What's your favorite rodeo up here?
Answer: I know it's pretty common but for the setup and the money, it's obviously Ponoka. It's a one off, it's the only one we get to run down the alley. With Lyle Kurtz putting up equal money, it's unreal to be able to rope for that much money. So Ponoka is definitely my favorite setup.

My favorite place to hang out and just be apart of the rodeo for a few days is definitely La Crete, the hospitality and committee up there is 2nd to none and their money just keeps going up and up. The first year I went to La Crete, it paid $1200/man to win it and now it's a Tour Rodeo that pays close to $3000/man. They just keep outdoing themselves.

Question: What else would you like to accomplish in your career?
Answer: Well, I don't really know. Obviously a Canadian Championship would be pretty nice before I was done. I didn't start pro rodeoing until 2016 so I started kind of late just cause I hung around the amateur rodeos for quite a few years roping with my dad. It just got to the point where it was now or never to go out there and try it on and I've kinda got addicted to it here now. So I guess my future goal is to try and win Canada before I'm done but the biggest thing is just to try and keep up with the young guys for as long as I can.

Question: Who has been the biggest influence on your roping career?
Answer: That would be my dad. He didn't team rope at all before I started and then once we got going, he became quite competitive and we made the CCA Finals 7 or 8 years in a row. He never team roped until I did and that was definitely a big influence on me. For him to still learn it and get competitive at it at that age, he taught me that it's never too late to start.

Question: What other CPRA Horse would you like to swing a leg over?
Answer: Definitely Jerrys. That's why I voted for him for the Horse of the Year. That's what I put into thought when I voted on that; which ones look the easiest but also the most capable. He just gets up and around them so easy and effortless, he never looks like he's scrambling.

Question: Who else are you excited to watch in Edmonton?
Answer: Well I would guess that they're all going to be pretty exciting to watch. Everybody's been through the long scores and they've been through the short scores and made it through to there. I just want to say everyone cause this year's lineup is so stacked.
